The actual word camcorder was created by combining Video camera and video recorder. So yes it actually is supposed to take pictures as well.
No surprise here. When it comes to cameras, Canon is king. (although Nikon is quite a bit of a competitor when it comes to DSLR cameras)

Still image capture is just an additional function for those who want a two in one gadget. I’d suggest getting a DSLR for shooting still images, they do a remarkable job. Great review on the camera. Now I know what to get. Thanks.

I believe sony (HDR-CX100) is the way to go. One of the best cameras I have. It cost $500. I have an more expensive camera from Canon, but the quality isn’t oh-so that good. I don’t believe the interface is as important as the performance and quality. So for me, It’s what the end result will be.
